Christine Blasey Ford just took her seat again.
Hirono: We all know that Dr. Ford's memory of the assault is very clear.
Hirono: This is not a criminal proceeding, this is a confirmation proceeding.
Is there a political motivation for your coming forward? [No, I was trying to get this information out while there were still other possible candidates.]
After Hirono, there are two more Democrats (Senators Kamala Harris and Cory Booker) and three more Republicans (Senators Michael Crapo, Thom Tillis, and John Kennedy), alternating back and forth. And presumably with Mitchell asking questions on behalf of those Republicans.
Hirono: We need to look this question in the face, does character matter?
Hirono: Men and women across country are disgusted by how basic human decency has been removed from public life.
Hirono just read from some statements that she is submitting to the record.
Counsel: Her lawyers have paid for her polygraph, as is routine.
Ford: I have been aware that there have been several GoFund sites, but I have not been able to figure out how to manage those.
Mitchell asks about an email received from Feinstein.
Mitchell: You said you didn't think your letter to Feinstein would be released from the public. You did not authorize it to be released? [Correct]
Mitchell: Did you provide letter to anyone besides Feinstein, Eshoo, attorneys? [No] Do you know how letter became public? [No]
Mitchell: After letter leaked, do you reach back out to the WaPost? [They were continuously reaching out to me, but I did respond when the reporters starting showing up at home and workplace.]
Booker: Anyone who has read your testimony knows what you have sacrificed by coming forward.
I had the seniority of Booker and Harris mixed up earlier.
Booker: Thank you for your courage in helping us do one of the most important things a senator can, to advise and consent on a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court.
Booker: Your courage is affecting the culture of our country.
Booker: There are literally hundreds of thousands of people watching your testimony right now. You are opening up hurt and pain that goes on across this country; it's nothing short of heroic.
Booker: Hundreds of thousands of people watching now, which is probably quite the understatement.
Booker quoting Senator Flake, who said Ford's claims must be fully aired and considered.
Booker: How does she feel about fact that so-called investigation is incomplete? [She wishes she could be more helpful and others could be more helpful in gathering more information.]
Now Mitchell for Sen. Tillis, R-NC
Mitchell: Did anyone advise you on the attorneys to choose? [friends and family, and Sen. Feinstein's office suggested some possibilities]
Mitchell: When did you first request an FBI investigation?
Ford: I guess when we first started talking about the possibility of a hearing.
Mitchell: Would you have been happy to submit to interview by staff members of committee? [Absolutely]
Mitchell: Any efforts aside from GoFund me and your money to finance the legal effort? [Some of my team on pro bono basis, also members of Palo Alto community who can help with security detail.]
Bromwich: Both her counsel are working pro bono.
Has she been told any questions in advance? [Definitely not.]
Mitchell: Who was the common friend between you and Kavanaugh? [The person Mr. Whalen mentioned on Twitter, I don't want to name him here.]
Ford: He was someone I "went out with" for a few months. After that we saw each other periodically.
Mitchell: Only common link between you and Kavanaugh? [The only one I can name right now, but were other members of club who were common acquaintances.]
Ford: With Kavanaugh, my sophomore year, 4-5 parties that my friends attended that he also attended.
Mitchell: Did any sexual assault happen at any of those parties, other than the one time?
Ford: I can describe them if you want me to.
Mitchell: Anything else that was sexually inappropriate by Kavanaugh?
