The Court announced last week that there would be opinions this week on Monday and Tuesday. Does that mean those opinions (from yesterday and the ones to be released today) were done at that point? Or was someone essentially predicting that they'd have stuff to release on those days -- and that at least one case was a day behind the ones that would be ready by Monday?

I understand that taking a three month summer recess has long been the Court's tradition. However, is there any statutory or internal policy on when this recess must take place? In theory could they just decide among themselves to work through till the next October term? Highly doubt that they would willingly end a three month vacation, but I am interested in the basis for doing so.

To preempt questions about R numbers: Opinions will appear on this page in 10-minute intervals. This column will be blank as long as more are to come. Once they're done for the day, numbers will appear.
