Thanks for joining us. At this point, we don't know how many of these we have left. We do know what we have seven (or eight, depending on how you count them) decisions left to be released. I list them here: http://amylhowe.com/2020/07/01/a-historic-term-runs-historically-late-the-remaining-decisions/.

At the risk of getting asked about this again as more people join us this morning, I’ll mention that today is the first day for merits opinions in July since 1996. Before then, we had opinions on July 3 in 1989, and July 7 in 1986, when there were seven opinions. It seems likely we are going to at least tie the July 7 date.

One of the things I think we need to really appreciate is the speed with which they are issuing opinions from the May sitting. They already had all the work to do to issues opinions from the term by 30 June. To add 10 cases to it in a May sitting, and then to be releasing opinions (2 of which have already been issued) in early July is an astounding pace. For a Court that sometimes gets criticized for having a light work load, they're doing an enormous amount of writing right now.

AM15: Honestly, it depends. If it's right now, they will find the youngest conservative they possibly could find to replace Alito or Thomas to solidify that conservative majority.
Disagree w/Amy on ACB or Neomi Rao. Trump and his spokespeople have repeatedly said they want to "save" ACB for RBG's seat. I feel like Rao has come off as far too blatantly partisan for Trump to get the seat w/o too much controversy.
