any word on petitions from yesterday's conference. Curious about Friedrichs v. California Teachers Association
-
Do we have anyway of knowing which petitions they reviewed yesterday? Did they get to all the ones on their list?
-
Do the Justices pause after an opinion is delivered, or do they just pick up the next document and continue?
-
Are all the opinions written (possibly days ago?) and they just drip them out, or are they scrambling last minute every day (and night) to release the opinions that they release the next morning?
-
Do the law clerks sit in when the opinions are read?
-
Sorry if you've already answered this... Do you think yesterday's ACA ruling has any implications for the SSM ruling? E.g., giving liberals something big and then following with something conservatives will like?
-
Considering the advent of technology (liveblogging, for instance), has there ever been such a collective bated breath for a decision?
-
Do you think opinions will go past Monday due to the major cases left?
-
On another matter, state of Texas has just filed its opposition to a stay of enforcement of its new abortion law. It was due at 4 pm but came in early.
-
Did Scalia announce his dissent orally yesterday in King? Also, is it rare and/or unprecedented for an author to exclude "respectfully" from "I respectfully dissent?"
-
If no electronic devices are allowed in the courtroom, how does SCOTUSblog live blog?
-
We are outside the courtroom, and we talk to Lyle (via phone from the press room).
-
Will things like possible heightened scrutiny for same sex couples be known and announced at the same time as the opinion is read?
-
We've had several questions from avid watchers asking if, because the Court now relists petitions once before granting them, that means petitions relisted this conference will go to the long conference in September. Last year, they didn't. The Court holds a conference after all the opinions are down to deal with the cases that have been held. We suspect the grants were resolved then.
-
What would you consider to be the best case scenario for SSM? 6-3? if 7-2 which justice would be the "7"th? Alito?
-
What happens when a Justice is late to work? Do those present take the bench, the other come in later?
-
Any chance the death penalty is broadly found unconstitutional in the Glossip opinion?
-
do you think Ginsburg will read the decision on Obergerfell?
-
I feel like I'm waiting for a baby to be born. Does anyone think that people should be paying more attention to the other opinions due besides SSM? They seem pretty imoortant to me.
-
Four boxes today, everyone. That could mean a lot of opinions, long ones, or both.
-
What do the Justice's clerks tend to do while the Court is in recess? Is their workload any lighter, or are they reviewing petitions, etc. until the new term starts?
-
Can you give a brief rundown of the cases that are left? Marriage, Death Penalty, MI v. EPA... what else?
-
What's the likelihood that we see a 6-3 decision on Obergefell with Roberts as part of the majority opinion?
-
Why do we never see photos of the justices arriving or exiting the court? Do they have an underground garage where they are picked up after work?
-
I saw some pictures yesterday of the "running of the interns." Are these interns for media outlets who might not be in the press room, or are they outlets who just want to be able to go on camera with results faster?
-
Is it possible that Sen. Pinckney's funeral and Pres. Obama's eulogy delivery would affect the schedule for releasing opinions?
-
Does the Attorney General ever argue to the Court him- or herself?
-
Okay, we're going to lay low while we are . . . #waitingforlyle.

Holding: Fourteenth Amendment requires a state to license a marriage between two people of the same sex.
-
And to recognize a marriage between two people of the same sex when a marriage was lawfully licensed and performed out of state.
