Thursday's live blog will be available at this link, which you can go to now if you want to sign up for an e-mail reminder.
-
Does Horne have any effect on civil forfeiture? Since the 5th Amendment requires just compensation when the Government takes personal property..
-
Is it possible that the majority in Fair Housing has shifted since conference? Is it normal for a January case--even if complex and weighty--to take this long to be handed down?
-
I suspect you'll say No, but is there any sense that a big pre-decision journalistic piece like the NYT story on Justice Kennedy's "tolerance" on gay issues has any impact (one way or the other) inside the court?
-
Could price support programs avoid Horne by simply barring growers from selling more than a specified level of produce during a designated time period, but without the government taking possession of the surplus?
-
Does Thomas have a sense of humor? "...having the Court of Appeals calculate “just compensation” in this case would be a fruitless exercise."
-
With Thursday being the last day for decisions before the major Pride festivals this weekend, would the court take advantage of that to release the SSM decision?
-
I have learned more about SCOTUS in the past hour than I ever have. This is great!
-
What does it mean for Ginsburg to be "missing one case from February and one case from April"?
-
What about Ginsburg writing the Obergefell opinion on gender discrimination grounds, capping her legacy before she retires this summer?
-
It seems like overturning Obamacare and allowing marriage equality might be a lot for the country to swallow in a four day period. Is there anything to be read in leaving these decisions for the last groupings?
-
Oh, you know what, I just remembered that Breyer's wife is British, so that's probably the connection.
-
Me and 47k readers will be here again on Thursday. Are they also likely to need another day?
-
What is Justice Kennedy's track record in racial cases such as they relate to issues like fair housing?
-
Why would the court have taken the King v Burwell case if it didn't intend to overturn ACA?
-
Earlier it was stated that opinions are released to the public the moment that the justice begins speaking in the courtroom. How does the court synchronize that? I was under the impression there was no A/V equipment in the courtroom.
-
This may be too formal of a forum to inquire about this, but when major cases are announced, are there conventionally protests/celebrations outside of the Court? i.e. If SSM and ACA aren't decided Thursday and are left for Monday, will there be a lot going on outside the Court?
-
I have read before that decisions are often assigned to the justice who might be the weakest in his/her conviction on the decision (taking into account too that the assigning justice is also the senior justice in the majority) so as to "fortify" his.her decision (he/she can't back out now). Would that still be true nowadays?
-
Eric or Amy -- with the remaining cases left. Who is most likely to write ACA? Seems like Roberts, Ginsberg, or Kennedy to me (maybe the former 2 are most likely?)
-
I was wondering if decision announcements are open to the public
-
Are you all writing from somewhere in/by the courthouse or in an office elsewhere?
-
I love that the final paragraph in Kimble cites S. Lee and S. Ditko, Amazing Fantasy No. 15. Brava, Kagan and nameless nerd clerk
-
Can I ask, why is King v. Burwell under the February list of cases on the statistics page? Is that where it's supposed to be? I thought it was argued in early March?
-
Do you think that Glossip is really as important as Burwell and Obergefell as it relates to affects on the states? Should it be considered as one of the BIG outstanding decisions?
-
is there a likely hood they will add another day other than Thursday this week and if so when would that be announced
-
Things do not look good for the EPA in Utility Air/Michigan v. EPA. Justice Scalia is the only justice without a March opinion (now that Kimble was decided). Given his open hostility towards the EPA's position during argument, the days look numbered for the mercury emissions standards.
-
Not sure if you've scanned the face of everyone attending the Court, but have you seen Stan Lee? I'm just wondering if he "extra" appearances in Marvel film/tv also includes Marvel court cases... :)
-
Amy, how long did it take the Horne v. Department of Agriculture to work it's way to the Court?
-
As one who does not necessarily follow the word-for-word of cases being argued, and in reference to the Scalia 'hostility" towards the EPA position during arguments, how often is it seen that any Justice's questioning or request for clarification is seen as hostile, yet is really a devil's advocate line of questioning?
-
How involved are clerks in the process for writing decisions?
-
All opinions that will be released today, have been released...correct?
-
When's the last time a SCOTUS Justice hired a clerk from outside a T-14 law school?
-
Amy Howe: Do you consider yourself a member of the Notorious RBG fan club?
-
Is there a cases before the court regarding lethal injections?
-
What is the record for number of opinions released in one day?
-
That's all we have for you today. Thanks SO much for joining us. We will be back bright and early on Thursday at 9 am; we are expecting additional opinions from the Court at 10 am that day. What will we get? We'll all find out together. Until then, have a good week. #waitingforlyle
